£10m mechanical and engineering contract won by SES Engineering Services
SES Engineering Services will deliver two new schools and community centres near Edinburgh as part of a £10m mechanical and engineering (M&E) contract.
The two contracts will see the firm utilise its offsite manufacturing facility, Prism, to deliver 17 prefabricated modules on site.
Full M&E services will be provided by SES Engineering Services across both the Loanhead Centre in Loanhead and the Newbattle Community Campus in Dalkeith. The two projects will see the firm continue long-term and well-established relationships with the main contractor Morrison Construction and client Midlothian Council. The Dalkeith project will be delivered through the council’s development partner Hub South East Scotland Ltd.
As part of the contract for Newbattle, SES Engineering Services will deliver a community centre, sports hall and swimming pool. The secondary school will provide education facilities to some 1,200 students. The campus, which will come in at £34m, is set to open in the spring/summer of 2018.
Loanhead forms part of a £15.4m community hub. This will comprise of a leisure centre, library and health centre. The work will see the existing primary school, located across the road from the site, replaced and enlarged.
These two projects represent a growing portfolio for the firm within the education and public sector. Recently, SES Engineering Services completed a £25m project at Edinburgh University to establish a world-leading Data Technology Institute. The firm also replaced the road bridge over the Firth of Forth with the Queensferry Crossing in one of the largest infrastructure investments in Scotland in a generation.
Colin Walker, SES’ Business Director Scotland and Major Projects, said: “The successful collaboration between Morrison Construction and SES was vital to secure this second project for Midlothian Council, which is striving to improve and expand community facilities in the area.
“This continued partnership will greatly contribute to the goal of achieving project completion and delivering stand-out new schools and community centres for the people of Loanhead and Dalkeith.
“These projects represent two of a number of public sector and education projects that we are currently working on in Scotland as we expand our operations here and we are proud to be making a difference delivering buildings that will have a real impact on people’s lives.”
